What is fashion? A quick google would tell you, "fash·ion /ˈfaSHən/ noun 1. a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior." It's a quite representable meaning. A popular trend in the dressing style of the generation and cultures. Or behavior of the individuals.  I am not a very fashion cultured person myself. To be honest, I lack in any fashion sense. I have been told many times to dress accordingly and not to dress plain (basically flannels all the time) . But I don't really care about other's opinions much.
